Snow chains – fitting and use

Chains provide grip on snow and ice when tyres alone are not enough. Practise fitting before you need them.

Fitting steps

1. Park safely, hazard lights, gloves on
2. Lay out chains, remove twists
3. Fit behind the wheel, connect inner then outer
4. Tension, drive a few metres, retension

Rules

• Follow speed limits for chains
• Remove on bare asphalt to avoid damage
