Convoy driving in winter mountains

Convoy driving over winter mountain passes is used when conditions are demanding. Follow instructions from road authorities, prepare the car and keep steady progress.

Preparation

• Fuel, warm clothing, food and water
• Clear ice and snow; demist windows and mirrors
• Check lights and follow the leader’s instructions

In the convoy

• Keep a steady, low speed and stable distance
• Low beam; use fog lights when needed; keep rear lights visible
• Do not overtake or stop unless instructed

If you lose contact

1. Ease off the speed; avoid hard braking
2. Increase visibility; keep calm spacing to the follower
3. Stop only if necessary at a safe place; wait for instructions
